Jeff Beiler
1985 Fermi High School graduate and an outstanding multi-sport athlete. Two-way starting football lineman, while earning All-League honors during his senior season. In addition to football, competed in Track & Field for four years, participating in the shotput, discus, and javelin events. Continued athletic career at Dean Junior College, playing both varsity football and lacrosse. A football injury cut short his playing career and went on to graduate from Springfield College in 1990. Began his coaching career during his senior year at Springfield College, while completing his student teaching assignment at Westfield High School & assisting both the junior varsity and varsity football programs. Returned to his alma mater in 1991 as an assistant football coach at Fermi High School. Later served as an assistant coach at Minnechaug Regional High School from 1995 to 1999, coaching both the offensive and defensive lines. Further football coaching also included assistant coaching positions at Stafford High School in 2001 and Windsor Locks High School in 2002, before returning to Fermi High School as an assistant coach in 2003. Beyond football, made significant contributions to Track & Field, serving as an assistant coach at both Fermi and Enfield High Schools from 1992 through 2016. Most notable coaching accomplishments came in wrestling. Began coaching the sport in 1993, assisting Hall of Fame coach Ben Aleks at Fermi High School. After just one season as an assistant, was named head coach despite having no prior wrestling experience as an athlete. Over the next two decades, built one of the most successful wrestling programs in school history. Under his leadership, the Falcons captured a CCC East Championship, earned a Class State Runner-Up finish, received a Team Sportsmanship Award, and compiled a school-record 250-plus dual meet victories. Coached 68 Class State Champions, 19 State Open place-winners, and 1 State Open Champion. Following the merger of Enfield and Fermi High Schools, continued as the head wrestling coach until 2016 retirement.
Jill (Belding) Greenleaf
Graduated Fermi High School in 1995. Key part of team records in the 200 & 500 Freestyle, and as a part of the 200 Medley, 200 Freestyle, and 400 Freestyle Relays. In dual meets, recorded a career record of 70-13-3, including a perfect 22-0 sophomore season. Finished top 6 in two individual events at CIAC class finals (1992-1994 seasons) and qualified for/placed at State Open as junior and senior. Honored with all-State team recognition her junior year for her third-place finish in the 500 Freestyle. Named Team Captain as a senior. At Swarthmore College, earned All-America first-team recognition in the 200 Butterfly with a 6th place finish at the NCAA DIII Championships her rookie season. Named first-team honor as a sophomore, along with All-America honorable mentions in both the 400 & 800 Freestyle Relays. At the conference level, collected five All-Centennial honors, including an individual championship in the 200 Butterfly as a freshman. Named team captain junior and senior year. Graduated with program records in five events, including a time in the 200 Butterfly that stood for a decade. Received the 1999 May E. Perry Award, named to the Centennial Conference Silver Anniversary Team, and inducted in the Swarthmore Athletic Hall of Fame in 2025. At the helm of the Skidmore men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs since 2002, Skidmore athletes have continuously re-written the record board multiple times over, and the teams’ finishes in the Liberty League and formerly UNYSCSA conferences have steadily improved. Honored as the Liberty League women’s coaching staff of the year in 2025-2026 season, coached multiple Liberty League event champions. Served as the assistant coach at Smith College and at Eastern Connecticut State University. Named the assistant director of the two largest, privately run swimming coaches’ clinics in the country—the Eastern and Central States Swim clinics—from 1998-2023.
Kathy Carbone
Physical Education teacher at Enrico Fermi High School from 1975 – 1995, and also taught Health Education from 1990-1995. Founded the Fermi High School girls’ volleyball program in 1977, and coached the girls’ varsity team from inception to retirement in 1995. Established a career record of 151-50 with a .751 winning percentage and CCC East league championships (1984, 1985, 1990, 1992), 10 straight state tournament berths, and 18-0 regular season record, and ranked first seed in Class M tournament in 1990. Led the 1993 team to a 15-1 record (.938), one of the best in school history. Achieved double-digit victory totals in nine of her last ten seasons (9-9 in 1986). Named ‘Coach of the Year’ in 1987 by the Connecticut Coaches Association. Coached girls’ varsity tennis from 1975-1995 at Fermi High School. Multiple doubles and single tennis players from her team’s would enter the state tournaments throughout the 20-year coaching period. Honored by the CT Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (CAHPERD) with the Professional Merit Award in 1990. Received bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State College in Physical Education (1975), master’s degree in health education from Southern Connecticut State College (1981), and 6th year degree from Central Connecticut State University in 1988.
David Sanchez
Graduated Enfield High School in 2002, while earning four varsity letters in football, and two in baseball. Named team captain in football as a senior. Honored as a Nutmeg All- Conference Wide Receiver as a junior and senior. Named Class M All-State as a senior in 2001. Named All Hartford-Courant Wide Receiver as a senior in 2001. Ranked in Second place for the most Connecticut High School kickoff returns in a season with four in 1999. Ranked Second all-time in Connecticut High Schools with six total kickoff returns for touchdowns in a career. Named 2002 MVP of annual Connecticut vs Rhode Island All Star Game with 88-yard TD reception and 198 yards receiving. Went on to play football at the University of Connecticut. Returned the first-ever punt for UConn in Rentschler field history, while earning a varsity letter in 2003. Part of the UConn Huskies first-ever FBS bowl game defeating Toledo Rockets 39-10 in the Motor City Bowl. Graduated UConn in 2006 and began a career in law enforcement.
Ray Stoll
Graduated from St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield. Attended and played golf for Holy Cross College and The University of Hartford. Won Best Athlete Award at University of Hartford two years in a row in 1970 & 1971. Played in State Open and State Amateur golf tournaments. Taught at JFK Middle School, Enfield High School and Enrico Fermi High School for a combined 35 years. Longtime coach and teacher in Enfield. Initially led the JFK Middle School golf club team and then transitioned to coaching the Enfield High School boys golf team from 1984 – 1992. Then, moved on to leading the Enrico Fermi High School boys golf team from 1992 – 2009. Tutored multiple outstanding golfers who turned out to become assistant golf professionals, superintendents, and college standouts. He coached fellow Enfield Athletic Hall of Famer, Branden Chicorka, Class of 2024. Led Fermi High School teams to CCC East champions in 2007, 2008, 2009. Exhibited a strong passion and respect for all athletes and students, while never cutting a player on his teams.
Leehna Ware
Enrico High Fermi High School 2009 Graduate. Led Fermi High School girls’ varsity basketball team for 4 years and received numerous accolades. Named three-time All CCC East player (2006/2007, 2007/2008, 2008/2009). Guided the Falcons to back-to-back league titles (2005/2006 & 2006/2007) and won the CCC league tournament championships in 2007. Only female in school history to tally 1,000 career points and finished with a record of 1,378 total career points. Dominated opponents with 1,123 career rebounds, while averaging over 14 rebounds per game in her junior and senior seasons. Scored over 30 points in a game three times in 2009. During her four-year career, her team’s had an impressive overall record of 65-27 and is the greatest winning percentage in school history. Graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 2013, and focused attention on becoming a personal trainer, bodybuilding, and fitness. After college, competed in the National Physique Figure division in the State of Texas (recognized by the International Federation of body building and fitness Pro league). Won numerous awards in women’s bodybuilding including: 2015 Women’s Figure 3rd Place (WBFF), 2018 Women’s Figure 2nd place in novice class/3rd place open (NPC), 2019 Women’s Figure 1st place overall (NPC), 2021 Women’s Figure 2nd Place (OCB), 2021 Women’s Figure 1st place overall (NPC), and 2023 Women’s Physique 1st place overall (NPC).
Tim Jensen- George Daly, Jr. Award
Fermi High School 1983 graduate, and a standout cross-country runner. Earned Associate’s degree at Asnuntuck Community College and built a successful journalism career across several Connecticut publications. For the past decade, served as Editor for multiple Patch.com sites in north-central Connecticut. Each year, notoriously traveled across the state multiple times a day to report on as many high school sports games and state tournaments as he could. As a lifelong resident, always demonstrated an unparalleled love for the Town of Enfield and its rich history. Beyond journalism, contributed widely to his community as a professional DJ, emcee, justice of the peace, and a 16-year vice-chairperson for the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame. Organized many scholarship fundraisers and supported numerous organizations and events in the community. Named First Commissioner of Blitzkrieg! Pro, an independent professional wrestling promotion, for nearly a decade. His widespread involvement in local sports included advocating for the Amy Romano Memorial Field Hockey Jamboree, freshman and middle-school sports via “Save Our Sports,” dedication of the Ben Aleks Wrestling Center, and The Bob Bromage Field dedication at Powder Hollow. Public address announcer for Fermi High School hockey, and later Enfield High School hockey for nearly two decades. President of the Connecticut Sports Media Alliance from 2017 until his passing in 2025.
