About the Hall of Fame
The Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame (HOF) was established in 1996. The HOF is dedicated to establishing a common ground of recognition for the citizens of Enfield through annual induction of individuals, teams, and sponsors both past and present. These citizens will have made a significant contribution in athletics or related fields and who have a defined, recognizable link to the community as positive role models. A committee of approximately 16 members was formed and monthly meetings are held to determine the yearly events, candidate research, balloting, election, and induction into the Hall of Fame.
Annual Events
FIELD HOCKEY JAMBOREE
Amy Romano Memorial High School Field Hockey Jamboree (annual):
The HOF holds an annual high school girl’s field hockey jamboree in the late summer at EHS. The jamboree is attended by 15-25 regional high school teams which does not count as official games.100% of the profits go to funding the Amy Romano Memorial Scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The HOF gives out annual scholarships to Enfield’s high school seniors. Scholarships include the general HOF, and the other is the Amy Romano Memorial Scholarship, honoring our late HOF Inductee (1997) and committee member. To date, the HOF has given out over $57,000 to graduating seniors going onto college. Scholarship application details can be found at the Enfield High School Guidance office.
INDUCTION CEREMONY
Each year the HOF hosts an induction ceremony to honor the class for that particular year. Over 200 people may attend the ceremony, including reception, formal dinner, past/present HOF gallery slide show, annual Inductee awards. The event is taped for local cable television.
Inductees Nominations and George Daly, Jr. Special Recognition Award
A nomination sub-committee was formed to solicit and go through hundreds of nominations. To be considered for induction, all nominees must have a completed athletic biography on file with the HOF subcommittee. This subcommittee and biographies are critical pieces of our organization’s process. Since we cannot research all candidates, we rely on the public to provide a great deal of names and information about possible inductees and teams. George Daly, Jr. was our first chairperson on this subcommittee. George did a wonderful job in 1996. Sadly, he passed away 3 days before the first-ever induction ceremony on August 2, 1996. Today, we recognize George’s athletic spirit and dedication to the HOF by awarding the George Daly, Jr. Special Recognition Award annually to a deserving candidate.
Male and/or Female Championship team(s) may also be recognized at the Induction Ceremony.
Location of the Enfield Athletic Hall Of Fame:
The Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame home is located inside Enfield High School’s Hall of Champions (outside the gym), at 1264 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 06082. The hallway is open to the public for limited times after school days, and always during events held in the gym.
