Bob Bacewicz

Enfield High School (EHS) 1969 graduate. Played 3 years of football, 4 years of basketball, and ran 2 years of track at Enfield High School from 1965 – 1969.  While playing football, played offensive and defensive end opposite his brother Joe, winning the Suburban League Championship with a 6-1-1 record in 1968.  Member of Valley Wheel Championship team in his senior year, with a 16-4 record.  On the EHS track team, ran the mile with a personal best time of 4 minutes, 31 seconds.  Four years of football as offensive guard and as a punter from 1969-1972 at UCONN. Rated as one of the top punters in New England, and received a letter of interest from Cincinnati Bengals. Named to the Kodak All-New England Scholastic Team in 1972. Graduated UCONN in 1973, and began a 36-year tenure with the Groton School District in Groton, CT.  Served as a teacher, vice-principal, and principal as well as assistant football coach, and assistant track coach at Fitch Senior High School.  He was part of the football coaching staff for 19 years, focusing on the offensive line and special teams, helping Fitch achieve the first State LL Championship in 1976.  Coached track for 20 years (shotput, discus, and javelin).  In 1994, received a Fullbright Fellowship through Connecticut College for a six-week program of study and traveled in the Czech Republic.  Member of the Southeastern Connecticut Chapter of the National Football Foundation Executive Board since 1982.  Served as President of this Chapter since 2003. During his tenure, the Chapter has honored over 600 scholar-athletes for their accomplishments on the football field, in the classroom, and in their communities. In 2017, received the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Outstanding Chapter Leadership Award for the Northeast Region in NYC.

Branden Chicorka

Enrico Fermi High School 2009 graduate. Four-year starter on the varsity Golf team and a two-year captain. Two-time CCC East Conference Men’s Golf Champion (2008 & 2009). Three-time member of Connecticut Men’s Golf All State team (2007, 2008, & 2009). Connecticut Men’s Golf Division 2 State Champion (2007). Placed 4th in New England Men’s Golf Championship (2007). Placed 25th in 2008 Junior PGA Championship at TPC River’s Bend located in Maineville, OH. Runner Up at 2009 Palmetto High School Golf Championships. Named Hartford Courant Men’s Golf High School Player of the Year in 2009. Four-year starter and two-year captain of the University of Rhode Island’s Men’s Golf team. Placed 6th in 2010 Connecticut Open Golf Championship. Russel C. Palmer Cup Champion in 2011. Medalist at Century Intercollegiate Championship in 2012. Medalist at Rhody Invitational in 2013. Helped lead the Rams to team championships at 2011 Yale Spring Open and 2012 UConn Connecticut Cup. Two time Atlantic 10 All-Conference team member (2012 & 2013). Two-time PING Division 1 All Northeast District team (2012 & 2013). Member of All New England Team (2012). Two-time Connecticut Amateur Semi Finalist (2012 & 2014). Participant in 2012 Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, RI. Participant in 2013 US Amateur Championship at The Country Club located in Brookline, MA. Career low competitive round of (66)(-6). Career low non-competitive round of (64)(-8).

Rob Hudson

Enfield High School 1983 graduate. All-State ice hockey defenseman in 1982 and 1983; anchored defense of Raider teams that captured 1982 Division II and 1983 Division I championships and won 43 straight games. In his junior year, was selected as a member of the CCIL All-Star team. Named tri-captain on undefeated 1983 team. Despite not being an offensive player, scored three goals and notched two assists in the opening game of the 1983 Division I state tournament against Brien McMahon-Norwalk. Selected first team All-CCIL, first team All-State and first team All-Division I tournament in 1983. In senior year in 1983, scored 13 goals and added 15 assists. Credited by teammates and coaches as being a critical backbone for just about every power play and penalty killing unit for the back-to back championship teams. Graduated from Manchester Community College and attended the University of Connecticut.

Dawn M. Massey

Enfield High School (EHS) 1985 graduate.  Two-sport recognition in Varsity Field Hockey and Varsity Tennis for 4 years. Field Hockey Class M State Champion in 1983 and 1984, scored winning goal in 1984 Championship game; Field Hockey Class M State Champion Runner-Up in 1982; Field Hockey Team Captain and lead scorer for 2 seasons; First string for 4 years; Awarded Field Hockey All-State Team selection, Field Hockey All-Central CT Conference First Team selection.  In summer 1984, accepted to Penn State field hockey practicum/skills demonstration; EHS Varsity Tennis 4 years; Tennis Captain and No. 1 Singles player senior year.  1983/1984 Field Hockey Team induction into Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame (2007); Field hockey scholarship to Mitchell College and selected as offensive starter as a freshman; Field Hockey career cut short by an injury.  Played Field Hockey for two well-recognized coaches who were inducted into Field Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame at the high school and collegiate level.  Selected as Assistant Varsity Field hockey coach at Enfield High School, and a volunteer youth Field Hockey coach in Farmington.  Continued on to receive degrees from Northeastern University and Boston College.

Ed Pohorylo

Enfield High School (EHS) 1934 graduate. Played varsity baseball and basketball for EHS.  The Raiders won the Valley Wheel baseball League Championship in 1934. Participated in inter-class soccer and track. After high school, exceled on regional semi-pro baseball and basketball teams, including Bigelow Weavers baseball team in the Triple-A Industrial League.  Scored the winning run in 1940 Championship game played at Forest Park before 6,500 fans, giving Bigelow the 1-0 win. Received a letter to report to the St Louis Cardinals minor league baseball team, but family responsibilities prevented him from going. After joining Army/Air Force in 1942, batted .400 for his Gunter Field (Alabama) team against some major league caliber pitchers, including the Red Sox star Mel Parnell. Led the Saint Adalbert’s team in the CT State Basketball League for many seasons, as a triple-threat man playing guard, forward and center. Member of a Springfield, MA PNA basketball team, and won several championships. Ed “Cowboy” Pohorylo was one of Enfield’s outstanding all around athletes, and a very familiar sports figure to both CT and Western Mass fans. Played with many Enfield Athletic Hall of Famers, including Ed Kukulka, Joe Kryzs, Wally Ligenza, John Urbon, and Frank “Lefty” Jedziniak.

Lenny Shortz

Enfield High School (EHS) 1969 graduate. Played three years of soccer, earning team the Most Valuable Player award as a senior at EHS. Played three years of soccer, and one year of tennis at Central Connecticut State College (CCSC). JV Soccer Boys’ Assistant Coach at EHS for three years, under the legendary, Bill Teed. Coached Enfield High School varsity boys’ soccer from 1981-89. Won CCC East Championship with an impressive 11-1-2 record, and then was Class L state runner-up in 1987. Reached the state tournament in all but 2 years during this stretch. Coached boys’ varsity tennis at Fermi High School for 20 years, posting winning records for 13 straight seasons.  Started Enfield’s recreational tennis program, ran townwide tennis tournaments, and gave lessons to adults and children. Local tennis professional at multiple organizations. Received the Hometown Hero Award in 2012 for the dedication to the children of Enfield for over 30 years.  Taught physical education at the elementary school level for 36 years.
