Ben Aleks
Prior to his coaching career in wrestling, Ben won the 1967 NEAAU Championships, the New England YMCA Championships and was runner-up in the National YMCA Championships.  He continued his dedication to wrestling as the Head Coach at Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA (1970 – 1977) culminating in a 118-27-4 record. Became Head Coach of the Enrico Fermi High School Wrestling team in Enfield (1984 – 1994), and accomplished a Fermi career record of 171-71-2, establishing a .705 winning percentage.  Believing that the sport of wrestling builds self-discipline, concentration as well as mind/body strength and commitment, he instilled these life-long skills and abilities in his young grapplers.  Led three of the four best seasons in Fermi history: 1987 (21-2) ‘87 CCC East Champions and runner up in the Connecticut State Opens; 1991 (23-3) and 1990 (20-5).  Coached the 1985 Falcons to become the Class LL runner up with a record of (19-5), and was selected Enrico Fermi High School Coach of the Year.  Never recorded a losing record in 11 years at Fermi. His teams were ranked in the State end-of-season Top 15 four times.  In his Enrico Fermi coaching career, he coached 11 Class champions, two State Open champions, 19 State Open place winners, four New England Championship place winners and one High School All – American.

Judy Joslin
Attended Maloney High School from 1975 -78. Played on 2 state championship volleyball teams and 1 Silver medal team. Received degrees from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) – Master’s Degree in Health (’92) & BS in Physical Education (’82).  Played division 2 volleyball at SCSU as a middle Hitter/OPP – 1978-1982. In 1978, she was named most improved player on the team. In 1981, her team placed 2nd to East Stroudsburg in regional championship NCAA Division II.  Named Captain in her senior year (1982).  Competed USVBA (USA Volleyball) open division. In spring 1981, won USVBA Regional Championship and competed at nationals in Dayton, OH.  Girls volleyball Coach at Lyman Hall High School (’82-’83); Glastonbury High School (’84-‘87); Enfield High School (’88-’93: JV Coach 1 year, Varsity Coach 2 years, Co-Varsity Coach 2 years);  Windsor High School (’94-‘97). Led the Boys Varsity volleyball as Coach at EHS (’92-present) after starting the program as a club. In 1995, started Fermi High program and ran a co-op team with Enfield High School until 1998, where Fermi was able to hold their own team. Teams competed in the state tournament in all but eight years.  Three-time State Runner-Up Champion team.  Received CIAC Coach of the Year Award for boys volleyball in 2008, and in 2009 was inducted as a player to the CT Volleyball Hall of Fame

Jeffrey Maier
Graduated from Enfield High School (EHS) in 1981, where he played Varsity Basketball (3 years), Varsity Baseball (3 years) and Varsity Cross Country (1 year). Named Captain of all three sports as senior.  While at EHS he was a member of the National Honor Society.  Jeff was named to the Journal Inquirer All-Area Basketball team as a senior after averaging 17.2 ppg with single game high of 30 points.  As a baseball player, he hit .391 with 24 steals and was named MVP of the baseball team.  Drove the EHS Cross Country team to win its first meet in over 3 years.  As a collegiate basketball player, he played 1 year of Varsity Basketball at Eastern Connecticut University, and transferred to SUNY Geneseo and played 3 years of Varsity Basketball. Named Team Captain in 1987, and led the SUNY Geneseo team in scoring with an 18.2 average and during his senior year, was named to 3 All-tournament teams and elected First Team All-SUNYAC.  In 1988, held the SUNY Geneseo record for most 3- point shots made in a season.  He returned to EHS as an assistant Basketball coach in 1989, and served as Head Coach from 1991-1999.  From 2002-2004, he coached the Upper School Girls’ Basketball and Co-Ed Flag Football teams at Trinity Episcopal School in Charlotte, NC.  As an adult, he played 10 years of competitive baseball for the Monaco Braves, an over-30 team and on Enfield Flag football teams.

Keith Porcello

1980 Enrico Fermi High School graduate.  Played varsity basketball at Fermi High school for three years, and one-year on the Manchester Community College men’s team.  Played numerous seasons in the Enfield Summer and winter Stone Age basketball leagues, and winning several championships.   Dominated on the AJ’s Pro shop bowling team, and won first place in the team scratch division of the Mass. Tri-County City tournament.  Amassed amazing records in bowling that include thirty-five perfect-300 games, and twenty 800-series games, with a high of 850.  He also had other records that include all-time top 10 averages: (235 in 2000 to 2001 and in 2012-2013), and 235 – All-time average by house at the AMF Chicopee lanes.

Glenn Reese

Played football and basketball in 1972 at Kosciuszko Middle School.  It was in the spring Track season that he discovered where his talent and passion resided.  As a freshman, he won every mile race that he ran, as well as several half mile races while being the first middle school athlete to break the 5:00 mile barrier, setting the school record of 4:59.  Co-captain of the Fermi Cross Country team his senior year, he broke the tape in 8 dual meets, set three course records, placed fourth in the CCIL conference championships, and was named to the all-CCIL conference team.  Was Track Tri-captain in 1974 & 1975 and as a senior, landed first place finishes in six one-mile events, eight two-mile events, and a new Fermi school record in the two-mile of 10:07.  During the early 1980’s to mid-1990’s, ran over 150 races ranging from the mile to the 26.2 mile marathon distance.  Highlights include multiple victories at the Suffield 10K and Johnson Memorial Hospital 3-mile, as well as breaking the tape at Enfield’s Steve Blake Memorial 10k, the East Longmeadow 5-mile and all three races in the 1986 Shenipsit Striders summer series.  Completed over 20 marathons and routinely finished in the top 1%.  In the era when the Boston Marathon qualifying time was the fastest, (under 2:50), he qualified for, and completed in the event 12 times.  This included a streak of ten consecutive years, with a best time of 2:37. His fastest marathons came at the Stamford, CT Marathon and the Washington DC Marine Corp Marathon in 2:32.  This finishing time equates to over 26 consecutive miles at 5 minutes and 48 seconds per mile.  Introduced hundreds of Enfield’s youth to sportsmanship, teamwork, and the love of sports, having spent 16 seasons coaching youth soccer and 9 seasons coaching Enfield Rec basketball.

Scantic Spring Splash

The Scantic Spring Splash was started in 1992 by the brothers, Mike Dynia and Jeff Dynia, with early inspiration from their father, Stan, all of Enfield, CT.  It was created as a way to give back to the canoe and kayak racing community and the town. Mike and Jeff were avid paddlers and competed in many of the whitewater races in the area before the race was formed. The race provides a challenging race for hundreds each year in Enfield.  The race, held every March, is now the biggest downriver race in Connecticut attracting upwards to 150 boats, 200 paddlers, and hundreds of volunteers and spectators from throughout the Northeast.  The race has generated thousands of dollars to non-profits in the community.  To date, they have raised over $15,000 and over 10,000 lbs. of donated food for The Enfield Food Shelf.  The true passion of a family has created a wonderful way to create excitement in their community, and impacting hundreds of lives through the race’s donations
